Branch Update

All,

While planning for this year’s Annual Awards Banquet we have been monitoring the Covid-19 pandemic and coordinating with our APWA National Office. While our local infection rate, as well as our Statewide infection rate have begun dropping, our National APWA leaders are not approving any indoor events with large groups. Because of our desire to have our banquet, in person and indoors, as we have done in years past, the Big Bend Branch Board made the decision to postpone the banquet. We have rescheduled the banquet to take place at Goodwood Museum and Gardens on June 10, 2021, pending Nationals approval.

The 2020 award nominations have been received, reviewed and winners selected. Several of our local winners have been submitted to the Florida Chapter for consideration of a statewide award. The state will decide which projects will go to National and will provide an endorsement letter to go along with the application. Once this happens, we will submit any additional projects we believe will compete on the national level to our National APWA organization for award consideration. We are not announcing the local winners of the awards at this time. However, those who nominated projects that are under consideration by the state and national organizations may be asked to provide additional information. Please respond when asked for any additional photos or information.

Since we will not hold our banquet until June, we have scheduled a regular lunch meeting for March 4, 2021. Our presenter will be Johnny Richardson from Leon County Public Works Water Resources office. Look for an email soon with the meeting information. We have several presenters lined up for later in the year and will provide more information on those meetings as they approach.

As of this writing, our annual Road-E-O is scheduled for May 19th. We will be providing additional information on this event as it becomes available.

Thank you for your continued support as we make our way through the pandemic. Our meetings will continue via Zoom until such time as we can safely meet indoors or have an outdoor type meeting. We are hopeful that we will be able to meet in person starting with our July 1, meeting.

Regards,

Big Bend Branch Executive Board
