Food Drive

All,
Blown Away! Wow! Awesome! Fantastic! Joyful! Grateful! Thankful!

These are just a few of the adjectives that describe how the Big Bend Branch board members are feeling as we type this update to all of you. When we set out to organize this year’s food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank of the Big Bend, we were concerned about the amount of support we would receive given many of our members are still working remotely, some may have experienced job hour reductions or job losses. We understood that it might be difficult to make a special trip to deliver donated items to the office when you are working from home, perhaps overseeing kid’s homeschooling, etc. Little did we know that something dynamic was about to happen. About a week prior to our December 10th meeting, we received a call from Dave Crombie with the local HNTB office inquiring if he could bring the donation boxes of food they had collected to the meeting. We said yes, we would have a vehicle to accommodate his anticipated donation. Low and behold, between that correspondence and the meeting date, unbeknownst to us, the Chipley office of HNTB brought over a large load of food to include in the donation. Dave and a co‐worker Jerry rolled up to the meeting with two SUV’s fully loaded down with food donations. When combined with the other donations that came in, it took us three vehicles to haul away the food from the meeting. Those donations, along with the food collected at city and county offices, culminated with APWA Big Bend Branch donating over 1,100 pounds of food (including pet food). Thank you to everyone involved in this year’s drive with a special shout out to HNTB, and in particular their Chipley office for the pick‐up load they sent over. Now you all can feel the same way we did when this all came together over the last week. Just pick any of the adjectives above or come up with one of your own.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year!

Respectfully,
BBB Board of Directors
